One of the primary goals of TFFA is the recruitment of individual volunteers who desire to become certified as Foster Parents. Due to the recent dramatic increase in the number of adoptions involving Foster Families and the children in their care, many families are “adopting themselves out of foster care.” The foster care system of Texas must continually recruit solid families who are interested in sharing their blessings with a child or sibling group in need of a safe and nurturing environment.
Some individuals interested in becoming Foster Parents are apprehensive about the certification process. One does not need to be a candidate for Sainthood to apply and begin the process. One does not need to be married to be a Foster Parent. The financial statement of prospective applicants does not need to include six zeros on the left side of the decimal. One does not have to live in a five bedroom home to be a Foster Parent. Candidates will have to be willing to expose their private lives to strangers, submit to a criminal background check for all adults living in the home, and demonstrate financial independence.
Foster Families in Texas may choose between two systems in which to volunteer. The public system, commonly referred to as CPS (Children’s Protective Services) and the private CPAs (Child-Placing Agencies). TFFA supports recruitment into both systems equally. Due to the number and regional specificity of the private agencies it would not be practical to list them in this format. For the purposes of initial discovery, interested parties can contact the referral number listed below for the statewide Foster Care and Adoption Inquiry line. Callers to the number will be prompted by an auto bot to answer basic questions regarding your geographic location so that relevant information can be mailed to you. Individuals may also contact the Regional Representative for your area through Email, those links can be found on the Board Directory (see the link – Contact Us). Good luck and may you be blessed by your desire to reach out to a deserving child. For more information contact the Statewide Foster Care and Adoption 1-800-233-3405 or see Contact Information in the Regions link on this web site.
