Have you ever wanted to know what types of programs and services are offered to families involved with DFPS? This presentation will give you an overview of the Child Protective Services (CPS) division of DFPS. CPS responsibilities include: Providing services to children and families in their own homes, placing children in foster care, providing services to help youth in foster care successfully transition to adulthood, and helping children get adopted.

Attendance Policy: To receive CEU credit for this webinar, participants must not arrive more than 15 minutes after the scheduled start time or leave 15 or more minutes before the webinar ends. Chimezie Eke, M.S., is a Faith-Based and Community Engagement Specialist with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS). She holds a Master of Science in Health Care Administration from California State University. With over eight years at DFPS, Chimezie has served in key roles including CPS Investigator and Conservatorship Specialist. In her current role, she partners with faith groups, nonprofits, and volunteers to support families in the child welfare system and educate communities on child abuse prevention and reporting.

Hernandez, Sylvia (DFPS)
FBCE Specialist III
Sylvia Hernandez is a Faith-Based Community Engagement Specialist serving Cameron, Willacy, Hidalgo, and Starr counties. Her distinguished 35-year career with CPS includes 20 years as a certified supervisor in Investigations and Conservatorship, and 13 years in specialized roles such as Trainer and Permanency Negotiator. A graduate of UT-Pan Am with a degree in Criminal Justice, Sylvia began her journey as a caseworker in 1990. After a brief retirement in 2011, her dedication to the community led her back to the department in 2012. Driven by a lifelong passion for the well-being of children, Sylvia is also an active gardener and thrift-shopper.
