The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services Council was created during the 85th Texas Legislative Session in 2017 as part of House Bill 5, the legislation that established the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) as an agency separate from the Health and Human Services Commission. The DFPS Council is a governor appointed advisory council to DFPS and the purpose is to study and make recommendations to the DFPS Commissioner regarding the management and operation of the department. The next scheduled DFPS Council meeting is Friday, March 8 at the Brown Heatly Building in Austin.
