Tammy Mermelstein

Collaboratory for Aging Resources and Education
Tammy Mermelstein has dedicated her career to empowering others. Currently, she runs the Collaboratory for Aging Resources and Education, an organization working to become the preeminent place to go for information and training on our aging population. In 2020, as part of CARE, she developed, along with Dr. Angela Goins, Adopt a Grandparent, a program that connects college students with potentially vulnerable older adults. Tammy also is a frequent presenter at national, state, and regional conferences, sharing information and best practices related to working with older adults and caregivers, some of which is based on her own time as both a daily and long-distance caregiver. She also has several publication credits to her name, including A Spotlight on Aging, a data report on Houston and Harris County's older adults and the Senior Guidance Directory, an information and resource guide, and she developed interactive presentations for professionals, older adults, and caregivers. She is former Chair of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission's Aging Texas Well Advisory Committee, Vice-Chair of the Harris County Area Agency on Aging's Area Plan Advisory Council, and holds leadership positions with the Houston Gerontological Society, Region 6 Adult Protective Services Board, and the Americorps Seniors Advisory Council. Tammy has also guest-lectured in university and graduate classes and contributed to an undergraduate social work textbook. Tammy earned her Master's in Social Work and Certificate in Non-Profit Management from Georgia State University, her law degree from the University of Miami, and her Bachelor of Arts degree from Stephen F. Austin State University.
