Child Development and Adoption

This 5-part series will include topics on attachment, child development, grief and loss, and helping your child understand their story. You can attend as many sessions as you like. 

This training series will provide knowledge, support, and guidance to caregivers to help them explore who they are as a caregiver and provide them with strategies to care for the children in their home.

This training is open to all caregivers, including foster parents, adoptive parents, and kinship caregivers.

We encourage everyone to register for each training date, as they will be covering different topics and objectives listed below.

Trainings:

  • How Attachment Relates to Caregiving  May 1st 11am-1pm
  • Supporting Your Child Through Grief and Loss  May 8th 1pm-3pm
  • Child Development and Adoption  May 15th 11am-1pm
  • Helping Your Child Understand Their Story  May 22nd 9am-11am
  • Training Follow Up: Connecting the Dots  May 29th 11am-12pm

Objectives:

  • Explore your own experience of caregiving.
  • Develop understanding of the lifelong role that grief and loss plays in adoption.
  • Demonstrate understanding of general concepts of development and normative development.
  • Understand the importance of centering your child's experience and needs.
  • Provide an opportunity for caregivers to share experiences, ask questions, and reflect on training material.
