Big decision becomes greatest gift

| Opening a family unit to new members who are looking for a safe and loving home can be one of the greatest decisions ever made by a family. Two families in this area recently opened the doors of their homes and their hearts to children who were eligible for adoption through the Child Protection Court of South Texas, with Judge Robert Falkenberg in a public ceremony at the Kerr County Courthouse. "This is something that we used to do quite a bit in our court, but COVID kind of changed things. We're trying to bring this back with in-person adoption days, especially during National Adoption Month in November," Falkenberg said in his opening remarks. He then issued an "adoption awareness proclamation" declaring November 2024 as adoption awareness month in South Texas. Falkenberg said that there are 108,000 children in the United States currently in the foster care program that are adoptable and there are 4,100 children and teenagers in the state of Texas available to be adopted.
