Texas Workforce Commission

Driver Education Funding Program

The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) helps young people who were in foster care transition to adulthood. They also work with local groups that help homeless people and people who have experienced dating or domestic violence. These groups may not have a way to get around (by car or bus), which makes it hard for people to find jobs, so the government has decided to create a program to help.

The Driver's Education Funding program will pay for driver's education classes for people who qualify, helping them learn how to drive and get a driver's license. The program will cover all the costs for training and related fees. It's a way to help more people find jobs!

Frontiers Program: Foster Care Alumni

The Frontiers Program is designed to help improve college graduation rates of students who have experienced foster care. Nationally, between 1-9% of students who have been in foster care will graduate from higher education. TWU is working to drastically improve that statistic. Currently, the Frontiers Program has a higher graduation rate than the national average. All students need support and guidance while attending college. The Frontiers Program provides that support and assistance to guide foster alumni along the path to their degree.

The Frontiers Program is for students who are attending or who would like to attend Texas Woman's University.

TWU's new FAST Academy is a short-term, summer residential bridge program that is specifically designed to help foster-care alumni succeed and thrive! Through hands-on activities and experiential learning, TWU faculty provide specialized instruction in math and English that will help ensure you are prepared for the rigors of the college classroom.

Coursework is designed to catalyze creative and analytical thinking while providing space for first-time college students to learn how to successfully navigate college.

FAST Forward is a new, fully online, asynchronous college readiness program offered by Texas Woman's University -- designed especially for young people across Texas who have lived experience in the foster care system.

Through FAST Forward and EdReady, you can take the next step on your college journey -- on your own schedule, from wherever you are. This four-week program helps you build confidence, prepare for college, and connect with a supportive community that understands your story and your goals.
